172nd Grand National: A remarkable experience
The highly anticipated 172nd Grand National drew to a spectacular end with Tiger Roll becoming the first back-to-back winner in 45 years. This brought back to Aintree the spirit of Red Rum, the only horse to have won the Grand National three times. The Grand National is a huge event for Ladbrokes Coral Group (which is now part of GVC Holdings), a world-class gaming and betting company in the UK with roots back to the mid-1800’s and a client of Dutch IT company, Symphony Solutions.
The Event Captures Huge Attention
Every April over 150,000 attendees head to Aintree Racecourse, which is a three-day event which attracts over 600 million TV viewers from all over the globe. This makes it the most prominent British and European racing event, with a prize fund of £1,000,000. The hype, interest and media coverage make the event popular, even among people who do not normally watch or bet on horse racing at other times of the year.
Ladbrokes Coral Performance During Grand National
As the high volume of bets begins to reach peak levels, it is also the time when bookmakers encounter technical issues, thus limiting their ability to fully service their bettors. The Randox Health Steeplechase is considered the apex of scrutiny that all the online top tier racing bookmakers in the UK are exposed to, and especially to our client, Ladbrokes Coral, the biggest high street bookmaker and the fastest growing digital bookmaker in the UK.
As soon as the 40 horses were lined up and just ready to take on over 4 miles and 30 jumps of an extremely challenging race, OXYGEN, Symphony Solutions in-house developed sports betting front-end platform, serviced successfully all Coral clients via Desktop, Tablet, Mobile, iOS & Android Native applications and once again, successfully managed to handle year-on-year all-time highest volumes of logins, concurrent users, new registration and transactions per minute.
Aliekhandro Del Rio, Solutions Architect for Ladbrokes Coral project at Symphony Solutions says:
‘As a technology team we prepare required infrastructure and make sure that needed failovers are in place. The preparation for this event took 3 months and all possible points of failures were identified and fixed.’
Results Speak for Themselves
Such achievement reflects the high level of technical competency of our +150 development team and their ability to deliver first in class applications, even for industry giants and veterans in the betting and gambling world where our reliability, performance, resilience and rich user experience has enabled us to be entrusted with developing the sportsbook front end platform for such renowned brands as Ladbrokes & Coral, which are the most prestigious sports and racing bookmaker brands in the UK market.
