Google I/O is an annual developer festival organized by Google. For eleven years in a row, it has been gathering tech people to discuss the latest Google technologies and innovations. This year a conference was held at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.
During the event, participants watched the keynote speech by Google CEO Sundar Pichai. He introduced new products and shared information about company’s main priorities for the near future.
Here you can find a few key points of his keynote:
Google is rethinking “all” of its products for an AI-first world. Seems like the search engine giant is really serious about switching from mobile-first to AI first world.
Smartphone camera as an input device. It means that now you don’t need to google information about the restaurant in a classical way, but just take a picture of the entrance. The search engine will provide you with a complete information about the place. Such service becomes possible after a mix of such buzz word as AI, AR, machine learning, and computer vision.
Google in numbers. There are up to 2 billion active Android devices worldwide, about 1.2 billion videos and photos are uploaded daily to Google Photos by 500 million active users. At the same time, Google Drive has reached 800 million users. Every day people watch 1 billion hours of video at YouTube and navigate about 1 billion kilometers with Google Maps.
Google will write emails for you. Gmail is launching its new automatic response feature Smart Reply. The feature will offer up to three responses based on the received email. If needed, users can enhance the automatic reply. The feature is planned to be available for both Android and iOS devices.
Standalone VR headsets by Google and partners. No phone or PC will be required and anybody will be able to experience VR via the headset alone.
Assistant for apps and transactions. Developers will now have a possibility to build transaction features for Google Assistant which will run for both Android and iOS.
Android Go. The software for low-connectivity devices. It will also be helpful for the users who speak multiple languages.
Indoor mapping. Visual positioning service or VPS serves users to map indoor location. For example, with VPS you can find the exact location of the product in a store.
Having watched the conference the most attentive participants won some prizes. The event was organized by local community GDG Lviv.
